The IHI and the Undergraduate History Association jointly present Charlie Chaplin's brilliant 1940 satire on Nazism, Italian Fascism, militarism, and anti-Semitism: "The Great Dictator." Chaplin wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the film. Banned in Britain during its production stage from 1938, and in France and most of Europe to 1945, it entered production in September 1939. Released a year later, it was Chaplin's most successful and popular film. Professor Cathal Nolan, Department of History and IHI Executive Director, will introduce the film and take questions afterward. |
