The Miriam Levine collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, printed material, professional material, and other items.
Manuscripts by Levine in the collection include drafts of various poems, as well as book reviews, and other prose writings. Also present are drafts of Levine’s novel In Paterson (Southern Methodist University Press, 2002).
Correspondence in the collection primarily consists of professional letters, dating from 1974 to 2007. There are several letters regarding Levine’s memoir Devotion (University of Georgia Press, 1993). In addition, there are several personal letters, dating from 2000 to 2008.
Printed material in the collection primarily consists of numerous literary journals, mostly including contributions by Levine; these include the Harvard Review, The Kenyon Review, The Paris Review, Ploughshares, and several others. Other printed items include proofs of In Paterson, with Levine’s corrections; various newspaper and magazine clippings regarding Levine’s writings; published versions of Levine’s poems and writings; and other items.
Professional material in the collection includes subject files, research files, and daily planners for 2004 and 2005. The files include manuscripts, correspondence, printed items, and other documents, regarding Devotion, In Paterson, A Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England (Applewood, 1984), Applewood Books, and other topics.
Other material includes contracts, royalty statements, photographs used for Devotion, In Paterson, and A Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England, and other items.
