The Ana Maria Matute collection consists of manuscripts by Matute. Several of these are unpublished juvenilia, but some published works are also included.
Juvenilia by Matute primarily consists of material written in the 1930s. These works all include drawn illustrations by Matute, some in color. Titles include “Fantasias” (1930); “Figuras Geometricas” (1936); Volfrindo, y Otros Cuentos Primeros; El Hijo de la Luna; Alegoria Primera (1938); and Le Revista de Shibil (1938). The latter work is a novel-length manuscript; the others are relatively short.
Manuscripts of published works by Matute in the collection include Los Abel (Destino, 1948); Pequeño teatro (Planeta, 1954); El Polizón del “Ulises” (Lumen, 1965); and Luciérnagas. The latter work was originally written between 1949 and 1953, put not published until decades later due to censorship from the fascist Spanish government. The frontispiece of the manuscript bears the stamp of the Official Censor.
