Photo Assignment Guidelines
Requesting Photography
Shoot Requests
We have a first-come-first-served policy and clients are strongly encouraged to request photography 2-3 weeks before an event or deadline in order to secure a University photographer. This does not guarantee a BU photographer is available, and if no University photographer is available, the Creative Director will hire an approved freelancer to handle the assignment. Requests made within three business days of the shoot may be considered a rush job and additional fees may apply.
Requesting Existing Photography
Clients receive images within three business days of a request. If the photo is needed sooner, a rush fee may apply.
Rates & Fees
Clients who commission photography may choose the basic or buyout rates. See the rate sheet for more information.
Basic
Clients who choose the basic rate have one-time reproduction rights of images in a specific publication or project. Any reproduction of images for future publications or websites will incur a stock image fee.
Buyout
Clients who underwrite the full costs of creating original images at the buyout rate have unlimited use and reproduction rights for one year. Clients may request to use the images exclusively for six months from the date of release.
Special Project Quotes
Clients who have unique photographic projects that require special art direction, materials, and complex production may consult with the Creative Director for an estimate. These jobs are automatically considered buyout projects.
Image Fees
Clients may visit BU image the collection to purchase high-quality, high-resolution digital images for one-time use only. Clients will receive high-resolution images within three business days of request. If a photo is needed sooner, a rush fee may apply.
Photo Research Fees
Clients who have special research needs may request in-depth research and review and retrieval of images in the BU film archives or external stock houses.
