The Department offers many different types of
funding available to PhD students, and seeks
to provide five years of support (some summer
funding is also available). Applicants wishing
to be considered for any Fellowship should check
the appropriate box on their application.
No financial aid is offered to
terminal Master’s students.
Presidential
University Graduate Fellowship
The one-year fellowship is renewable
for up to three additional years. The fellowship
includes a stipend and a scholarship for tuition
and registration fees for up to eight graduate
courses (32 credit hours) towards your degree
program during the academic year. After the first
year, recipients are expected to become teaching
fellows. Fifth year support is often available.
Students wishing to be considered for this fellowship
must submit his/her application by the January
15th deadline.
Metcalf Fellowship
The one-year fellowship is renewable
for up to three additional years. The fellowship
includes a stipend and a scholarship for tuition
and registration fees for up to eight graduate
courses (32 credit hours) towards your degree
program during the academic year. After the first
year, recipients are expected to become teaching
fellows. Fifth year support is often available.
Students wishing to be considered for this fellowship
must submit his/her application by the January

Teaching Fellowships
This fellowship allows graduate
students the ability to gain classroom experience
under the close supervision of faculty members.
In addition to a generous stipend, teaching fellows
also receive a scholarship for tuition and registration
fees for up to eight graduate courses (32 credit
hours). The time commitment is generally 20 hours
per week, in addition to your regular classes.
Students wishing to be considered for this fellowship
must submit his/her application by the January
15th deadline.
