Flyer Information and Survey Project
This unique flyer-and-survey effort was developed by the Community Committee for Health Promotion and has been undertaken by the CCHP each year since 2005. It has become an essential element of the PHH-PRC’s work.
The process begins each year in June when the CCHP distributes an informational flyer, in both English and Spanish. Designated members of the Committee take responsibility for individual housing developments, ensuring door-to-door distribution of the flyers. The flyer lets residents know about the CCHP and what it does, and introduces the PHH-PRC and the Center’s other three partners. Finally, it provides information on health promotion programs that are available to residents.
Starting about two weeks later, each CCHP member goes to the same development as before—but this time, seeking to do a short in-person survey with residents. The survey questions vary from year to year. However, in general terms the survey asks about whether and how the respondent received the flyer, and probes for information about how best to communicate with the respondent. It also includes questions about the respondent’s health concerns, including issues related to health care and health insurance. Finally, it probes the resident’s awareness of the PHH-PRC, including the Community Committee for Health Promotion and the programs offered by the PHH-PRC.
The results of each annual survey are reported back to residents in a brief summary and are also conveyed to the PHH-PRC partners, so that the Center’s work can continue to be informed by the concerns of the community.
