Position Brief:

HITLAB is seeking a motivated individual with prior experience in the life sciences including the commercialization and research and development of life sciences technologies. Prior consulting experience is desired but not essential, although the right candidate should have demonstrated experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Candidates must have strong analytical skills and an interest in solving complex problems aimed at changing healthcare access and delivery.

Key responsibilities:

  • Solve and advise on complex challenges in the life sciences using a hypothesis-based approach.
  • Carry out primary and secondary research and provide key insights from the findings.
  • Create and utilize strategic models and analytic tools (e.g., forecast models) to support decision making and recommendations.
  • Deliver recommendations that impact and inform business and operational strategy.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to drive the development and execution of healthcare strategies.
  • Lead projects and work streams independently and offer guidance to peers and junior staff.
  • Support internal practice development and grant development activities at HITLAB.

Qualifications:

  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in management consulting for life sciences or prior work experience in a pharmaceutical company
  • In depth knowledge of the life sciences industry including commercialization, clinical operations, research and development
  • Strong project management skills
  • Superior written and oral communication skills

Job Title:        Senior Manager – Organizational Programs Management (OPM)
Location:       New York, NY

Summary of role:

IAVI requires a high energy, highly organized manager to provide project management support to the Executive Office. The successful candidate will oversee the OPM function within the Executive Office, working across the organization to coordinate activities, manage special projects and research emerging topics and opportunities, including timely implementation and follow through on assignments emanating from the CEO and the Senior Management Team (SMT). The OPM will support the CEO for key external meetings and implementing Strategic Alliances by liaising with relevant program staff, developing appropriate materials and communicating outcomes of the meetings. The Senior Manager - OPM will attend and coordinate key leadership meetings, follow up and track tasks and project and communicate key actions and ensure stakeholders are briefed and brought into conversations as appropriate. In addition, the Senior Manager – OPM will prepare materials and presentations that may be needed for internal and external audiences and key meetings.

Specific Responsibilities:

The specific responsibilities and expectations of the Senior Manager, OPM include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position Summary:

IAVI is recruiting for a Program Coordinator to serve as primary point of contact and key relationship manager for the US Agency for International Development (USAID) on the implementation of a new and transformative Africa-centered model of global partnership to Accelerate the Development of Vaccines and New Technologies to Combat the AIDS Epidemic (ADVANCE). Funded by USAID under a new $160 million cooperative agreement, this flagship initiative will dramatically accelerate development of a safe and effective HIV vaccine.

The Program Coordinator will play a critical implementing role for this new program, maintaining comprehensive financial, program and technical knowledge related to the full scope of activities under the cooperative agreement. He/she will coordinate the development of annual USAID workplans and reports, serve day-to-day project management needs across the ADVANCE Leadership Team, provide technical and implementation support to the Project Director (IAVI President & CEO, Mark Feinberg, MD, PhD) and other senior leaders on the project, and maintain strategic communication and regular contact with USAID.  In support of the ADVANCE Leadership Team, this position will also play an important facilitating role for strategic alliances and co-funded activities with other funders and external research collaborators, including partners at the Wellcome Trust, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other US Government agencies involved in vaccine research, for example.

 

This position resides in the Executive Office of IAVI’s Research & Development (R&D) Department, as part of the R&D Portfolio Management and Operations Team. This team has responsibility for integrating IAVI programs with organizational strategy, which provides a unique opportunity for the Program Coordinator to engage with all aspects of IAVI’s R&D program.  He/she will report to the Executive Director, R&D Portfolio Management and Operations, and work closely with the Executive Director for Global Public Giving, located in IAVI’s External Relations Department.  As noted above the Program Coordinator will collaborate closely with IAVI’s President and CEO and other individuals across the organization, including especially IAVI’s East Africa Office in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as key staff in Finance & Administration.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain comprehensive financial, program and technical knowledge related to the full scope of activities within ADVANCE, including collaborating with colleagues across IAVI departments (R&D, Finance & Administration, External Relations) and working closely with IAVI regional offices in East Africa and India
  • Serve as primary point of contact for USAID program managers and relevant stakeholders

Experience and Skills:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant discipline (biological sciences, business, management, economics, law, international relations, public health or a related area)
  • At least 8 years of professional experience coordinating, managing or implementing biomedical research projects
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of vaccine research and development program, including necessary elements of epidemiology, clinical and field vaccine trials, project management, financial management, knowledge management, strategic coordination and communication

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

The Policy and Advocacy Officer reports to, and supports the Head of Policy. She/he ensures broad consultation with relevant stakeholders and gains feedback on the work of the MPP, develops partnerships with governments and other institutions to support the organisation’s licensing, represents the organisation at various meetings and identifies initiatives and/or policy processes for the MPP to engage with.

  • Developing and maintaining relations with external stakeholders, including governments, inter-governmental organisations and civil society organisations; 
  • Establishing strategic/technical collaborations with key institutions, particularly in the fields of tuberculosis and/or hepatitis C;
  • Monitoring and interacting with key policy processes that are relevant to the work of the MPP and preparing submissions, statements or other needed material;

  • Organising consultations with civil society, community and patients groups and other interested stakeholders at international conferences or regional/national events;

  • Contributing to positioning the MPP in the broader public health field and exploring new opportunities for the MPP;
  • Organizing public events and representing the MPP at various public events;

Knowledge/Qualifications:

The Policy and Advocacy Officer should have:

  • Strong background in public health;
  • Good understanding of access to medicines issues in developing countries, particularly in relation to HIV, tuberculosis and/or hepatitis C;
  • Good understanding of intellectual property rights and their interface with public health, innovation and access to medicines;
  • An understanding of regulatory issues would be an asset;
  • Extensive network of relevant contacts;
  • Experience working in developing countries, particularly in Asia, Africa or Eastern Europe would be desirable

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

The Communications Officer reports to, and supports the work of, the Head of Communications. She/he is responsible for writing communications materials and managing the Medicines Patent Pool’s online presence, with specific attention to social media engagement and the management of the MPP website. The Communications Officer also works with graphic designers and other consultants/agencies/firms to design and print MPP materials as well as create new media tools. Responsibilities include:

  1. Write and edit communications materials including, but not limited to, press releases and statements, web copy and newsletter content;
  2. Support MPP’s outreach to media and manage social media engagement;
  3. Lead development, input and maintenance of MPP’s website and media/ stakeholder database;
  4. Work with graphic designers to produce and print MPP materials such as brochures, banners, one-pagers and annual reports; support MPP’s presence at key events;

Job Description
Global Access in Action, a project of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, is seeking a paid summer intern from June to August 2016.

Interns will be responsible for assisting with a variety of tasks including research, writing, event management, project administration, and communications.  In particular, interns will help with:  (1) general administrative support for the project; (2) assistance in finalizing a practical paper on increasing access to medicines; (3) a June workshop at Harvard on access to medicines, as well as follow up from the event; and (4) communications and outreach.

We are looking for candidates who are detail-oriented, hard-working, and committed to global public health.  Experience with global health, intellectual property, competition law, communications, and event management are helpful but not required.

GAiA conducts action-oriented research into access to lifesaving medicines, and alternative incentives for the development of medical treatments for underserved populations.
