Lorenzo is a 3 year-old Bull Terrier/Basenji mix who was rescued from Puerto Rico by Save A Sato, a group that is dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for stray, abandoned, and abused dogs in Puerto Rico. Lorenzo was rescued from a parking lot where young children were burning him with cigarettes. An elderly woman who lived in the area chased the children off then contacted Save a Sato.

Save A Sato placed Lorenzo in a home in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, after just about a month, his new family decided they couldn't provide him with the home he needed and surrendered him to the Animal Rescue League's shelter in Dedham.

Lorenzo was in the shelter almost a week when Sara, one of the staff members, returned from a few days of vacation. Seeing his kennel empty, she thought he had been placed in a new home. Sara wasn't really looking to adopt a dog, but when she found out later that day that Lorenzo had simply been out for a vet check, she decided that he was the dog for her.

Sara says Lorenzo is a friendly dog and has adjusted well to his new home. Despite his history of abuse, Lorenzo is outgoing and not fearful around people, even children. Sara gives him positive reinforcement in this area by bringing him to the shelter for frequent visits where he can interact with the staff, visitors, and the other dogs waiting to be placed in homes. A long way from that parking lot in Puerto Rico, these days Lorenzo can often be found lounging on the sofa or reclyner at Sara's place.
