MCAFEE VIRUSSCAN - installing and troubleshooting
Boston University has a site license for McAfee VirusScan, an anti-virus program for Macintosh.
Prior to late 2006, VirusScan for Macintosh was called Virex . We use the two names interchangeably.
Installing McAfee VirusScan
To download and install VirusScan, go to the password-protected McAfee download page and follow the instructions.
Updating McAfee VirusScan
To update VirusScan so it has the latest virus definitions, open VirusScan, click on the eUpdate button, and then click the green Start button. (In some versions of VirusScan, there is no eUpdate button; you just click on Start.)
Problems updating VirusScan
Occasionally, VirusScan will give an error message when you try to update.
If you are running Virex 7.7 and Mac OS 10.4.4 or 10.4.5, then there is a hotfix that can solve this problem.
If you are not using Virex 7.7 and Mac OS 10.4.4 or 10.4.5, and you are having problems with updates, please follow these manual update instructions.
