How to scan text with windows

Using TextBridge Pro (see PDF version with pictures) OR read the basic summary below.

  1. Put the printed page face down on the scanner with the top towards you.
  2. Open “TextBridge Pro 11.0” on the desktop.
  3. Make sure the AutoOCR button is selected on the TextBridge toolbox at the top of the page.
  4. On the AutoOCR toolbar are three drop-down menus: (1) Get Page, (2) Describe Original, and (3) Export Results. Make your own choices for (1) and (2), and for (3) choose "Save As File".
  5. Click “Start” (the blue arrow).
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. You will be prompted to save the text to a file. Either save the file on your own disk or on the desktop, in which case you can e-mail it to yourself (www.bu.edu/webmail/).
  8. Use “Unicode Text with line breaks” format if you are not sure what application you will be using the text in.
  9. When you have finished scanning, close the program by going to File -> Exit.
  10. Remember to copy your files to your own disk or mail them to yourself.
  11. Please erase any copies of your files from our computer and remove your original document from the scanner.
