Configuring A dial-up (modem) connection IN Windows vista

  1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Connect to a network.
  2. Click on Set up a connection or network.
  3. Select Set up a dialup connection and click Next.
  4. Enter the appropriate information for the ISP you are dialing in to. If BU is your ISP, the basic number is 617 378-1111. However, you'll want to make sure to use the Dialing Rules to help you get the number set up correctly (formatted as if you were making a regular phone call to 617.) For example, if you have call waiting, the number to dial might look like this: *70 1 617 378 1111 or if you have to dial 9 first, it might look like this: 9, 1 617 378 1111. If you use a calling card, you'll also want to enter that information and the Dialing Rules window will help you do that.
  5. You should also enter your BU login name as the User name and Kerberos password as the Password.
  6. You should probably also give the Dial-up Connection a more specific name such as "BU dial-up" (in case there might be others). Then, click on Connect to make sure it works.

  7. Once the connection is successful, you will have an opportunity to save it for future use, which you should do.
  8. Next time you want to connect you then go to Start -> Settings -> Network Connections and launch the dial-up connection.
