- To access the BU wireless network, you will need a BU login name, Kerberos password, and ACS account. ACS accounts are generally available only to registered students, faculty and staff. Please see below for more specific information.
Registered BU summer students (and new faculty or staff) will need a BU login name and ACS account
Registered summer students (and new faculty or staff) who do not already have a BU login name and ACS account may get one at 111 Cummington Street. (Please bring your BU ID.)
Once you do have a BU login name, and if you are living in a BU residence, please plug your computer into a network port with an Ethernet cable, then go to https://netreg.bu.edu to register your computer so it can access the BU network. If you find that you cannot get to that Web page, please call the Personal Computing Support Center at 617-353-7272 for assistance. PCSC summer hours are listed at www.bu.edu/pcsc/. (You will not need to NetReg in non-residence buildings, such as classroom buildings.)
Once you do have an ACS account, wireless access is available in many non-residence areas as described at www.bu.edu/pcsc/wireless/.
Conference participants and Summer Associates need a Desk Key
If you are a conference participant or Summer Associate, you will need a Desk Key (a special numeric code) that will give you wired network access in the residences, as described below:
- If you are a conference participant, you need a Desk Key (a numeric code for wired network access). If you do not already have your Desk Key, please contact the Office of Conference Services. OCS may be reached at 617-353-3520 or www.bu.edu/ocs/. You will generally not be eligible to use the BU wireless network, unless the Office of Conferences Services specifically requests that access for you.
- Summer Associates are guests of the Office of Housing who are not registered students, but who have been issued with a BU ID number that starts with "U". If you are a Summer Associate, this BU ID number is your Desk Key; please call Housing for assistance. Also note that you will generally not be eligible to use the BU wireless network, unless the Office of Housing specifically requests that access for you.
- Once you do have a Desk Key, please plug your computer into a network port with an Ethernet cable, then go to https://netreg.bu.edu to register your computer so it can access the BU network. If you find that you cannot get to that Web page, please call the Personal Computing Support Center at 617-353-7272 for assistance. PCSC summer hours are listed at www.bu.edu/pcsc/.
Professional Education students, Evergreen students, Alums, and others
If you fall into one of these groups, or something similar, it is very possible that you are not authorized to access the BU wireless network, or the wired network in residence halls. Please contact the IT Front Office at 617-353-2780 to find out about your own specific account status.
