SilkyMail will no longer be available as of Monday 16 June 2008
SUMMARY
Beginning on Monday 16 June 2008, SilkyMail will no longer be available for reading ACS mail. ACS mail will continue to be available, unchanged, through Horde and many other mail clients. You can easily transfer any SilkyMail address books you might have to Horde, even long after SilkyMail itself is no longer available. You will also need to follow the instructions on that page if you wish to continue using your sent items folder in Horde.
DETAILS
SilkyMail was a product of Cyrusoft International, which filed for bankruptcy in October 2005. As such, SilkyMail has had no support or security updates for several years. The person who was the primary developer of SilkyMail continued to develop the package as the open source project we have offered for several years as SilkyMail's successor, Horde.
We are in the process of moving most ACS mail to new hardware and software, which should allow us to provide improved performance and capacity in our mail services. SilkyMail is not compatible with the new system. The combination of incompatibility with our new mail system, lack of support, and lack of security updates has made our continued offering of SilkyMail untenable.
If you currently use the SilkyMail interface, you can switch to the Horde interface at any time. Your ACS mail will continue to be available, unchanged, through Horde and many other mail clients. If you have a SilkyMail address book, you can easily import its contents into Horde. You will be able to import your SilkyMail address book in this manner even after SilkyMail itself is no longer available -- at least through the middle of the fall semester.
Comprehensive information about supported mail clients is available. If you need help switching to Horde or another mail client, please contact us.
