migrating from silkymail to Horde

To begin using Horde instead of SilkyMail, all you have to do is log in to Horde and begin using it. Horde is simply a different doorway into the same e-mail you have been using all along. The only other information you might need to know is outlined below.

Importing the SilkyMail address book into Horde

1. If you have not already done so, log in to Horde.

2. Select Address Book using either of the two menus.

3. Select your SilkyMail Address Book (from the Select Address Book pull-down) and it will display your SilkyMail list. (If you have more than one list, choose one for now and then return to this step later to do the rest.)

4. Click to place a check mark in the very first check box of the address list
(which will select all addresses in the list).

5. Next, select My Address Book from the to Selected Address Book pull-down,
   as shown below.

6. Then, click on Copy, as shown below.  Depending on the size of your address book, the copy process can take some time.

7. Repeat steps 3 - 6 if there are any other SilkyMail Address Books you want to move to Horde.

8. Select My Address Book now from the Select Address Book pull-down to make sure the import was successful.

Using a sent items folder in Horde

If you have been using a sent items folder in SilkyMail, you will probably want to continue using it in Horde. Although you will still see that folder when you log in to Horde, you do need to take the steps outlined below in order to tell Horde to continue using it to collect your sent items.

1. Within Horde, click on the top Options menu (to make sure you end up in the General Options for Mail area) then click on Personal Information.

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, indicate that you want to Save Sent Mail and select a sent items folder to save to. (NOTE: If you do not have a folder to use, you will need to make one. These instructions assume that you will be using an existing folder, such as the one that was originally created in SilkyMail.)

3. Once you are all set, click on the Save Options button.

New outgoing messages will now be automatically saved, provided you have sufficient quota space available to store them. You can monitor your quota usage at: www.bu.edu/computing/myacs.

Why can't I see all my folders (e.g. Sent Items)?

Horde uses a different folder path to look for folders, so anything outside of the expected path will seem to be missing. If there are any folders you expect to see that are now hidden, please write to help@acs.bu.edu. The ACS Help Desk staff will then put the missing/hidden folders in a place where Horde can see them.
