Boston University's urban setting provides significant benefits to faculty, staff, and students. The same environment, however, provides very limited parking accommodations. It is through understanding and cooperation that faculty, staff, and students can make the most of the University's limited parking facilities.
General Regulations
University permit holders are expected to abide by all University parking rules and regulations and respect the limits of the parking permits they purchase. Active parking permits and/or valid pay-on-entry tickets must be properly display in all vehicles whenever they are parked on Boston University property. Parking & Transportation Services parking spaces are clearly identified by either signs or pavement markings. If an area is not specifically marked for use by those displaying active Parking & Transportation Services’ parking permits, you should assume that you cannot park there.
Parking & Transportation Services strictly enforces the University’s parking rules and regulations at all times.
University permits authorize parking on University property as designated within the Parking Regulations and Transportation Services annual brochure and as published on this Website. Many local areas in the vicinity of the Charles River Campus are governed by municipal authorities. Boston University parking permits are not valid in those areas.
With the exception of a carpool permit, only one permit may be purchased per person and that permit is not transferable. Permits found on vehicles for which they have not been issued are considered stolen. Such permits will be confiscated and the vehicle in which they are displayed will be towed, without notice, at the owner's risk and expense. Multiple vehicles may be registered per permit but a permit entitles the bearer to park only one vehicle on campus at a time. If a permit holder parks more than one vehicle on campus at the same time, the owner of the vehicle will be subject to fines and the vehicle in which no permit is displayed will be towed, without notice, at the owner's risk and expense.
Falsifying a University parking permit will result in immediate revocation of all parking privileges, confiscation of the falsified permit(s) by the Boston University Police Department, towing of the vehicle, possible legal prosecution, and disciplinary action:
- For employees, disciplinary action may include the imposition of fines, restitution, and termination of employment.
- Student offenders will be referred to Judicial Affairs and Student Safety Programs for review and investigation under the Code of Student Responsibilities. Disciplinary action may include sanctions such as University suspension, and the imposition of fines and restitution.
If you are a permit holder in good standing and, during an emergency, you must use a vehicle not registered with Parking & Transportation Services, or, for any reason, cannot display your permit within your vehicle, you must park at one of the attended lots and request a Substitute Vehicle Form from the parking lot attendant. You will be required present your Terrier Card to the attendant and to provide your Boston University identification number and the license plate of the vehicle registered with Parking & Transportation Services. If you anticipate using your substitute vehicle for more then one week, please contact Parking & Transportation Services at (617) 353-2160. (See the Parking Map for lot locations and hours of lot and garage operations.)
Purchasing a parking permit does not guarantee a parking space will always be available on campus in the most convenient location or during major events or unusual circumstances. The unavailability of a convenient parking space, severe weather, or running late for a class or meeting are not considered valid excuses for violating any of the University’s parking regulations
All Parking & Transportation Services parking spaces are clearly identified by either signs or pavement markings. If an area is not specifically marked for use by those displaying active Parking & Transportation Services' parking permits, you should assume that you cannot park there.
Parking permits issued by Parking & Transportation Services do not authorize parking in spaces marked for use by Rental Property Management tenants. Only the Rental Property Management can authorize the use of tenant parking spaces. Violators will be subject to towing and fines
