Towing

The following infractions will result in the immediate towing of vehicles from University property, without notice, at the owner's risk and expense. Towing charges are in addition to ticket fines and must be paid upon retrieval of the vehicle. Towing fees currently average $90-$95, plus $20 in storage fees for each additional day the vehicle is left at the tow yard. Towing fees are subject to change without notice.

  1. Unauthorized parking in a handicapped space
  2. Parking in a fire lane or tow zone
  3. Trespassing/no permit
  4. Expired permit
  5. Falsified permit or permit that does not match the vehicle(s) registration
  6. Use of lost or stolen permit(s)
  7. Delinquent parking fines/nonpayment of fees
  8. Violation of permit restrictions
  9. Parking in a restricted zone
  10. Obstruction of a Dumpster
  11. Blocking a driveway, building entrance/exit, or delivery zone

Retrieving a Towed Vehicle

If your car is towed, call the Office of Parking and Transportation Services at 617-353-2160 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for instructions on retrieving your vehicle.  After 5 p.m. or on weekends, call the Boston Tow Line at 617-343-4629.

Tickets and Appeals

Citations will be issued for the following parking offenses:

Violation     Fine
Parking in a designated handicapped space

Parking in a fire lane

Parking in a tow/no parking zone

Blocking a posted service/delivery zone

Blocking a driveway or building entrance/exit

Obstruction of a Dumpster

Parking in a restricted zone

Overnight parking

Failure to properly display permit

Taking more than one space  

$10

Where applicable, violations will result in both the issuance of a ticket and the towing of the vehicle, without notice, at the owner's risk and expense. Towing fees are in addition to ticket fines.

Anyone wishing to appeal a ticket must do so in writing within seven days of its receipt. Address the appeal to Boston University Office of Parking and Transportation Services, 775 Commonwealth Avenue, Second Floor, Boston MA 02215.

Fines are payable at the Office of Parking and Transportation Services or must be returned by mail within 21 days of the date of violation. Fines not paid within 21 days will be considered delinquent.

Delinquent student fines will be attached to student academic bills.

Liability

Boston University assumes no responsibility for vehicle damage, theft, or theft of contents when parked on University property.
