Why has my parking deduction changed?
In 2009 September, Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) started to charge monthly paid employees for their parking permits based on the number of weeks in a given month. For example, we multiply the weekly GREEN permit rate of $21 by the number of weeks in the month to calculate that month’s deduction.
However, if you purchased a GREEN permit you may have seen a $91 deduction in September. You are correct, the amount should have been only $84. The correction of this $7 overpayment will be seen in your November paycheck.
The correct GREEN permit deduction for October is $105 (5 weeks x $21).
Just to ease your concerns, if we had continued to consistently deduct $91/ month for 12 months the annual total would have been $1092. If you multiply the $21/week GREEN permit deduction by 52 (weeks in a year) the amount is still $1092. The new accounting system does not change the annual price of a permit, it simply prorates refunds more accurately.
We apologize for the with confusion associated this programming change.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the PTS office at 617-353-2160 or send and email to parking@bu.edu.
All the best,
