#BUcityplanning Jane Jacobs's Walk of the Seaport District, Boston

  • Starts: 11:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2019
  • Ends: 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019
As part of the New Student Orientation activities, Boston University City Planning and Urban Affairs Professor Jim O’Connell, Ph.D., (Author, The Hub’s Metropolis: Greater Boston’s Development from Railroad Suburbs to Smart Growth) will lead a Jane’s Walk through Boston’s Fort Point Channel District, Seaport District, and Harborwalk. Join the walk to help figure how much the development in these areas--glass-box mid-rise architecture, mixed commercial and residential uses, open space creation, place-making cultural activities--follows the urban planning principles of Jane Jacobs—or not. The walk starts in front of the main entrance at South Station and will end at Our Lady of Good Voyage in the Seaport. Jane’s Walks are a series of neighborhood walking tours across the world that are inspired by urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs. This walk is open to current #BUCPUA students and faculty, as well as new #BUCPUA students and MET International students only.
