Statement of Purpose

Applicants are required to submit a statement of purpose (also called a personal statement)  elaborating on their qualifications for admission. This essay should be around 750 words in length  (not more than 1,000 words) and should discuss the applicant’s relevant background, field of interest within IR, reasons for choosing BU, and career goals. We are particularly interested in hearing about any work, academic, or volunteer experience that is relevant to international affairs.  We would also like to hear about the applicant’s international exposure, such as study abroad experience.

The essay should be professional (not personal) in style and should display the applicant’s writing abilities.

The statement of purpose can be submitted either electronically through the online application system (preferred) or via post (see here for the mailing address).
