Specialization: American Foreign Policy, Vietnam War, Cold War.

Stephen R. Lyne spent 29 years in the Foreign Service, 12 of which were spent dealing with Indochina. He also served in the Pacific (New Zealand, Australia), Africa (Gabon, Ghana), and the Middle East (Algeria, Lebanon). He was Ambassador to Ghana (1987-89), and Special Representative for Africa at the United Nations General Assembly in 1989.

Lyne retired from the Foreign Service in 1990 to teach at Boston University in the Departments of International Relations and History. He retired from teaching in 2003.
