Ambassador Maen Rashid Areikat currently serves as Chief Representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to the United States. Previously, he spent eleven years at the Negotiations Affairs Department of the PLO in Ramallah, most recently as Deputy Head and Coordinator-General. Ambassador Areikat also spent six years at Orient House, the headquarters of the PLO in Jerusalem and of the Palestinian Negotiating Team to the Madrid peace talks. He took part in Palestinian-Israeli negotiations at Beit Hanoun/Erez in Gaza and Taba in Egypt in 1996 and in Jerusalem in 1997. He was an official member of the Palestinian delegation at the Wye River negotiations in 1998.
Ambassador Areikat is particularly eager to answer questions about the stalled peace process, the United Nations statehood bid, the Palestinian people’s daily challenges living under occupation, and any other topics relevant to Palestine.
