Division of Regional Studies

The Division of Regional and Thematic Studies (DRS) of the Pardee School of Global Studies has two main aims: 1) to develop and share with the public a deep knowledge of specific regions and their states, societies, cultures, languages, peoples, and environment; and 2) to foster rigorous, transformative scholarship that crosses existing national, regional, and disciplinary boundaries.

The Division comprises the BU centers and programs dedicated to the study of Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, the Muslim societies, and culture and religion. With a combined faculty of nearly 200 from departments and schools throughout the University, the DRS is in a unique position both to support the growth of regional studies and to incubate cross-regional initiatives, share resources, and build synergies among the respective area studies programs.
