Lukes Publishes Op-Ed on Crises in the U.S.

Igor Lukes, Professor of International Relations and History at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, published an op-ed in Pritomnost, which sums up the events in the United States from the start of September to mid-October.

In the article, titled “Trumpova podzimni horecka” (Trump’s Fall Fever), Lukes recounts President Donald Trump’s comments regarding fallen U.S. Marines, the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, protest against police violence and the clashes with counter-protesters, wildfires on the west coast, as well as the U.S. response to COVID-19. Lukes argues that tackling the myriad of issues that have arisen in the U.S. would require common sense and a willingness to agree; however, he goes on to say that these qualities have been in desperately short supply.

The full op-ed can be read online.
