12th Annual Boston Area Model United Nations Conference Held

The 12th Annual Boston Area Model United Nations Conference (BarMUN XII), organized by the Boston University International Affairs Association, was hosted from October 3-6, 2019 at Boston University. The Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University co-sponsored the conference.

The premiere crisis conference on the collegiate Model UN circuit, BarMUN is Boston University’s annual collegiate Model United Nations conference. Kaija Schilde, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School, delivered the keynote address at the conference and discussed topics including how important Model UN is to the world, the importance of studying international relations, and the future career prospects for those currently studying IR.

Akash Chopra (BA IR/Economics, Pardee ’20), who serves as the Secretary-General of BarMUN XII and a Pardee School Dean’s Ambassador, delivered welcome remarks at the conference. 

More than 400 delegates from more than 40 colleges attended BarMUN XII, which provided 17 committees for delegates to participate in over the weekend, according to Chopra. The conference featured a variety of specialized, crisis, and economic and social committees focusing on topics including Brexit, the Belt and Road Initiative, the use of United States federal land and more.
