Amb. Paul Webster Hare, Senior Lecturer at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed for a widely-syndicated article on Miguel Díaz-Canel, the likely successor to Raúl Castro in Cuba.

Hare was quoted in an April 18, 2018 article in AFP entitled “Parliament Must Elect Castro’s Successor.

From the text of the article:

“It will be interesting to see if (Mr. Diaz-Canel) is able to withstand the pressure of this charge,” notes Paul Webster Hare, professor of international relations in Boston and former British ambassador to Cuba.

“Fidel and Raul (…) never had to justify their positions. They had led the revolution and no one questioned their right to be rulers. (But) they have not created a democratic model to drive change, this is one of the main reasons why Diaz-Canel faces a daunting task, “he continues.

Amb. Hare teaches classes at Boston University on Diplomatic Practice, Arms Control, Intercultural Communication and on Cuba in Transition. His novel, “Moncada – A Cuban Story”, set in modern Cuba, was published in May 2010. His book “Making Diplomacy Work; Intelligent Innovation for the Modern World.’ was published in early 2015.
