Mahesh Karra, Assistant Professor of Global Development Policy at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, presented at the 5th International Conference on Nutrition and Growth held in Paris, France from March 1-3, 2018.

Karra’s talk was entitled “Long Run Effects of Early Childhood Growth Faltering: An Analysis in Low- and Middle-Income Countries,” and focused on results from a study that estimates the associations between exposure to early life growth faltering (child stunting) at the subnational (population) level and adult height and education outcomes.

The purpose of the conference is to bring together pediatricians, nutritionists, neonatologists, experts in child development and other specialists to discuss the challenges of the interplay between nutrition and growth in the pediatric age group. The meeting also enables the exchange of ideas and knowledge between the different disciplines for facilitating research and clinical interdisciplinary collaborations focusing on nutrition and growth.

Karra’s academic and research interests are broadly in development economics, health economics, quantitative methods, and applied demography. His research utilizes experimental and non-experimental methods to investigate the relationships between population, health, and economic development in low- and middle-income countries.
