In the Wake of the RCEP: Asia-Pacific or Indo-Pacific?

  • Starts: 9:00 am on Thursday, March 11, 2021
  • Ends: 10:30 am on Thursday, March 11, 2021
What’s in a name? The signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) by 15 nations in Asia and Australasia last November marks an important milestone in the Asia-Pacific. With India not being part of it, to what extent does the RCEP call into question the validity of the term Indo-Pacific, which has gained currency in the past few years? Which term, Asia-Pacific or Indo-Pacific, better expresses the realities on the ground in the world’s fastest-growing region? Join us on Thursday, March 11 from 9:00-10:30 am ET for a webinar titled, “In the Wake of the RCEP: Asia-Pacific or Indo-Pacific?” The webinar will feature Alice Ba (University of Delaware), Sreeram Sundar Chaulia (Jindal Global University), Wang Huiyao (Center for China and Globalization), and Amb. Jorge Heine (Boston University). This event is part of the Rising Powers Initiative (RPI), a new research program at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.
