Graduate Summer Fellows Meet With Faculty Associate Henrik Selin

The 2018 Graduate Summer Fellows had their final faculty lunch discussion of the program on July 25 when they met with Prof. Henrik Selin, a Pardee Center Faculty Associate and an associate professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies.

Prof. Selin gave an overview of his career path, stressing the valuable role that interdisciplinary study played in his training from graduate school in Sweden through a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT.

He also spoke about his ongoing research on international environmental agreements, sustainable development, and toxic chemicals (e.g. mercury), which is his primary focus while on sabbatical this fall at the Technical University of Munich’s (TUM) Institute for Advanced Study on a Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship

In February, Prof. Selin was selected as an expert for the newly-formed Minamata Convention on Mercury effectiveness evaluation committee, representing the Pardee Center, which is an observer organization of the Convention. He was selected as an expert representing civil society based on his extensive work in international environmental governance and the management of hazardous substances.
