Why Microgravity?
The Role of Buoyancy

Single Bubble Sonoluminescence (SBSL) has been intensively investigated both experimentally and theoretically in the past five years.  Despite such recent attention, there remain (at least!) three unexplained phenomena associated with SBSL:

  • The light emission mechanism itself,

  • The disappearance of the bubble at some critical acoustic pressure, and

  • The appearance of quasiperiodic and chaotic oscillations in flash timing.
