Project overview:
Acoustic time reversal research is being carried out at Boston University
in conjunction with the Applied Physics Lab at the University of Washington
to investigate the behaviour of high intensity time reversal arrays. Both
modeling and experiment are being used to study the performance of the
arrays under less than ideal circumstances.
Such arrays can be used to focus acoustic fields onto scattering targets
in arbitrary media, subject to relatively few constraints. Applications
to underwater and medical acoustics are being studied. In particular, the
behaviour of the acoustic field in the vicinity of the focal spot when
finite amplitude wave propagation occurs is being evaluated.
