Description

The purpose of the pediatric environmental tobacco smoke project is to improve medical students'assessment and treatment of parents who smoke in the pediatric clinical milieu. The ultimate objective is to change the culture of practice of physicians who care for families and children, by providing students with guidance for motivational counseling with parents regarding ETS, so tobacco prevention and cessation becomes a component of standard care in the clinical setting.

Structure of Module

The ETS training is a one hour module which will be presented in an interactive format.

Target Audience

The target audience is third year students.

Goals

The goals of the program are as follows:

1. Train clinicians in current tobacco treatment and cessation techniques for parents who smoke.
2. Increase knowledge of the effects of ETS for physicians who care for children and families
3. To educate parents who smoke on the effects of ETS via physicians who care for families and children.
