School Program Instructor Qualifications
School Program instructors are hired for their enthusiasm, educational
background, knowledge, and experience working with children.
We draw staff from across the United States and around the world. Instructors
lead groups of 10 to 12 visiting students, teaching lessons their classroom
teachers select prior to arrival at Sargent Center, from areas including:
- Wildlife/Forest Ecology
- Wetland Ecology
- Geology
- Adventure/Teambuilding
- Ropes Course
- Orienteering/Wilderness Skills
Though we prefer previous experience, training in these subject areas
is included as part of a two-week staff training program for all instructors.
Applicants for instructor positions should meet the following qualifications:
- Age: Minimum age 18.
- Education: College degree or enrolled in
college desirable.
- Certifications: Current First Aid and
CPR. Lifeguard and/or Small craft certifications desired.
- Qualities: Enthusiastic; team player
with strong desire to work with children in an outdoor setting;
highly motivated to learn
and practice new skills.
- Experience: Skills
in adventure programming, environmental education, and previous
experience working with children strongly desired.
