Life as a School Program instructor

School Program instructors spend a full day with students that begins with breakfast and ends at 9 p.m. when students are escorted to their teacher or parent chaperones. Throughout the day, instructors and students eat three meals together—buffet-style—in our dining hall.

Lessons are delivered in three blocks: morning, afternoon, and evening. During non-lesson time, instructors share in a limited amount of supervision.

Here’s a sample of a typical day as a School Program instructor:

Housing

Instructors live together in a community environment that features a living room, dining room, full kitchen, Internet access, and double rooms. Instructors live and work closely together, helping each other stay healthy and enthusiastic. Bulk food is provided

Length of Employment

Instructor positions are for three, six, or nine months with preference given to those making a nine-month commitment.

  • Academic credit: It is sometimes possible to earn credit for your experience at Sargent Center. We can work with individual instructors and their academic institutions to fulfill requirements for credit

  • Possible employment in other Sargent Center departments: There are often opportunities for instructors to work with Sargent Center in a variety of capacities, including our conference program, Adventure Camp, and administrative positions
