Other BU Support
Office of General Counsel
The Office of General Counsel provides legal support for all of the University’s activities. The Office of Technology Transfer works closely with them to develop all of the agreements to implement partnerships with companies – option, license, research and equity agreements, etc. Examples of situations where you may need to ask their help directly include:
- If you are asked to sign a material transfer agreement before receiving a biological material or chemical compound from another academic institution or company (Charles River Campus; Medical Campus should contact the Office of Research Administration);
- If you are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement before visiting a company;
- If you wish to sign a consulting agreement with a company.
Office of Sponsored Programs and Office of Research Administration
The Office of Sponsored Programs (on the Charles River Campus) and the Office of Research Administration (on the Medical Campus) helps faculty secure and administer external grants and contracts for their research and training projects. These offices also help faculty identify sponsored funding opportunities, prepare proposals, secure protocol approvals, draft/negotiate sponsored agreements and administer funds awarded.
The Office of Research Administration helps Medical Campus faculty who are asked to sign a material transfer agreement before receiving a biological material or chemical compound from another academic institution or company.
Library
BU libraries, available to BU students, staff and faculty, provide on-line access to numerous journals. The resources that they have access to may be particularly helpful in commercializing research results (e.g., Nexus/Lexus, etc.). Several of these services would require a fairly high cost subscriptions to access as an individual.
