Educational Initiatives
One of the core missions of the Office of Technology Development is to encourage an entrepreneurial culture at Boston University by educating faculty and students about technology commercialization. We achieve this through a number of mechanisms:
Technology Commercialization Courses
We teach two graduate level courses in our commercializing embryonic technologies:
- Bench to Bedside - Translating Biomedical Innovation from the lab to marketplace, which focuses on life science innovations and
- Technology Commercialization & Entrepreneurship - Essential tools for the new Entrepreneur, which focuses on lab technology.
Analyst Program / Internships
OTD has an active program of internships and is proud of the track record of our interns in their subsequent careers in technology management. We have paid opportunities for graduate students and undergraduate students in their junior or senior year. We typically require a commitment of at least 10 hours per week during the semester and at least 30 hours per week in the summer.
Technology Transfer Fellowships
We welcome more senior individuals who work in technology transfer at a management level outside the U.S. who wish to study our approach to technology transfer first hand. Technology Transfer Fellowships are for a duration from one to three months, and must provide their own financial support. We have had fellows from India, Norway, Switzerland, France and Spain.
IPconnectEd Student Group
IPconnectEd is a student group that is closely affiliated with our office. The group is composed of business, science, engineering and law students who are interested in learning more about intellectual property (IP) and exploring careers related to IP management. Such careers include business development, technology transfer, venture capital, and IP Law. The group’s mission is to facilitate networking opportunities for those interested in an IP related career, and to create IP awareness through education.
