Modular Genetics Inc.
Modular Genetics is developing its high-throughput proprietary gene-engineering platform which allows the direct joining of DNA/gene segments via a PCR based method using specialized primers. The company will generate custom gene assemblies as research reagents and potential products. These assemblies will allow gene researchers to perform experiments on novel custom designed genes.
Kevin Jarrell and Temple Smith, both of who are Professors at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University, developed the technology. A license agreement is in place between Boston University and Modular Genetics.
Over the short term, the focus for Modular Genetics will revolve around securing Series A financing through a venture capital consortium. Initial funding requirements to support eh achievement of strategic goals are a minimum of $2 million.
Boston University invested $50,000 in the company.
Modular Genetics is currently in discussions with genomics, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies regarding contracts and partnerships for its products.
