AdipoGenix

As the epidemics of obesity and diabetes increase at alarming rates, AdipoGenix targets the source of the problem: the human fat cell.

AdipoGenix's mission is to discover and develop novel therapeutics for safe and effective treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes. The Company's goal is to develop both internal and externally-sourced compounds into pre-clinical obesity drug candidates. AdipoGenix's business model is to clinically develop and commercialize these drug candidates through Big Pharma and Biotech partnerships. AdipoGenix will also collaborate and partner with pharmaceutical and chemistry companies to develop their own compounds using AdipoGenix's novel drug discovery program.

The well-publicized failures of obesity drugs on the market, coupled with recent advances in AdipoGenix' knowledge of fat cell function, have led us to a new approach for weight control - drugs that attack the fat cell directly. The novel use of human fat cells in the initial stage of drug discovery enables AdipoGenix to focus on very early identification of potential therapeutics that target human fat tissue.

The Company's world-class scientific expertise and drug discovery approach using human fat cells has resulted in over 100 leads, 2 compounds on the fast track to IND filings within the next 24 months, and 17 patent applications (1 NOA). Corporate partnerships and SBIR grants have generated $3.3M to fund these results. The Company is currently in negotiations with a major pharmaceutical company to establish a multi-year, multi-million dollar drug partnership. AdipoGenix is currently seeking $10M to continue the development of its own compounds and to establish alliances for this new class of obesity drugs.

AdipoGenix has a world-class group of founding scientists and a current team of 8 scientists in the areas of obesity, diabetes, fat cell biology and drug discovery. Tom Vogel, CEO, joined the Company in April, 2002 to direct the Company's strategy, operations, business development and financing. Jeff Leighton, Ph.D., a pharmaceutical and biotech executive with 20 years of successful results of drug discovery, is the company's Director of Drug Discovery. Barbara Corkey, Ph.D., a leader in Obesity and Metabolism research, leads the company's core scientific team. AdipoGenix has formed one of the strongest concentrations of core obesity expertise and management experience among its scientists and operating team. The Company is located in a 4,000 square foot facility housing biology and screening laboratories and office space in Boston near the Boston Medical Center. A license agreement is in place between Boston University and Adipogenix.

The company has raised $3 Million to date and has received two SBIR grants (two phase I, one phase II). Adipogenix is in discussions to raise additional funding through both direct investment and sponsored research agreements.
