The focus of our funding initiatives is to stimulate the development of intellectual property owned by Boston University and develop and manage spinout companies based on Boston University technologies.
OTD has initiated the Ignition Award program to help bridge the gap between government funded research in basic science and the product development work performed by commercial entities. Awards will be made to faculty and staff, not companies. Awards are meant to stimulate development of BU-owned intellectual property.
OTD’s Launch Award program is designed to help Boston University faculty members start new companies based on technologies that they invented at the University. Awards will be made to companies and not faculty and staff. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship group working closely with other OTD groups will select certain technologies based on extensive due diligence and help commercialize the technologies by starting a company and licensing the technology to the new entity.
