Maximum Award: $50,000
The Ignition Awards support researchers who hope to demonstrate the commercial viability of their new technology. They can be used to develop a prototype, to gather data that show proof of concept, or to show how a technology compares to existing technologies and what the competitive advantages are.
The Office of Technology Development (OTD) provides Ignition Awards used to assist researchers in reaching key milestones that increase the value of promising technologies to commercial entities. This funding helps bridge the gap between basic scientific research and product development.
Submission Schedule:
All faculty are invited to submit a one page pre-proposal for review by OTD staff. A subset of pre-proposals will be selected for full proposal submission and further review.
Pre-Proposals for the first competition in FY2009 are due July 1, 2008 through August 31, 2008.
If your pre-proposal is selected for a full proposal submission then the full proposal deadline is September 15, 2008. Faculty are encouraged to submit pre-proposals as soon as possible so that members of the OTD staff can support the development of full proposals.
Proposals received during this first competition will be reviewed and awarded in October, 2008.
Pre-Proposals for the second competition in FY 2009 are due February 2, 2009 through March 30, 2009.
