Photonics Center
The Photonics Center identifies, develops and commercializes disruptive photonics technologies by joining commercial needs and technological advances within an entrepreneurial environment. The Photonics Center works with Boston University faculty to help them translate ideas into new products. In addition, they bring technologies originating elsewhere into the University for further development. Some of the resources at their disposal are an incubator facility and their own family of venture funds, Beacon Photonics.
BioSquare
BioSquare is Boston University’s research park. It is located on Albany Street, across from the Boston University Medical Campus. It combines state-of-the-art, build to suit facilities with a comprehensive list of tenant amenities within easy access of Boston’s major business, biomedical, and academic medical centers. It allows outstanding biomedical research companies and businesses the opportunity to work in tandem with leading principal investigators in their fields from the Boston University Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Public Health.
BioSquare has recently opened the BioSquare Discovery and Innovation Center. This facility is located on the ground floor of the Evans Biomedical Research Center (650 Albany Street). It has incubator facilities for up to seven new companies and houses offices of some of the university officials who have responsibility for establishing relationships with companies – the Office of Technology Transfer and BioSquare.
BioSquare’s aims are (a) to grow companies that are based on Boston University research and (b) to bring onto campus companies carrying out exciting biomedical research whose technology originated elsewhere.
Fraunhofer Center
Fraunhofer Gesellschaft is Europe’s largest contract research organization and is widely recognized for its contribution to Germany’s strength in manufacturing. There are over sixty Fraunhofer centers worldwide, all located on the campuses of major universities. The Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing and Engineering at Boston University was the first Fraunhofer Center to operate in the United States and conducts applied research for local and international industry. Its mission as a non-profit institute is to develop next generation manufacturing technologies for industry based on emerging US and European research.
Health Policy Institute
The Health Policy Institute is led by Dr. Richard Egdahl and has a number of missions. One of them is provide fellowships for M.D.’s who have decided not to make the practice of clinical medicine their primary activity and find another outlet for their medical training. One option the fellows frequently choose is to start a health care company with the Health Policy Institute working to assist them start companies in medical devices, medical services and medical information.

Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (ITEC)
ITEC is a new model for entrepreneurship education, research and training that uniquely cross-channels resources from a large num ber of schools and departments throughout Boston University.
