PROGRAM: FIPSE—Special Focus Competition: The U.S.-Russia Program: Improving Research and Educational Activities in Higher Education
OBJECTIVES: The FIPSE program provides funding to improve postsecondary education opportunities by focusing on problem areas or improvement approaches in postsecondary education. This particular program is a Special Focus Competition to provide grants that demonstrate partnerships between Russian and American institutes of higher education that contribute to the development and promotion of educational opportunities between the two nations. The aim is to use the educational content as the vehicle for learning languages, cultural appreciation, sharing knowledge, and forming long-term relationships between the two countries.
Applicants must select one academic discipline as the subject area for their proposal. The Department and the Russian Ministry have jointly decided to make up to three awards, as follows: (1) Environmental Science Studies — No more than one award; (2) Biotechnology — No more than one award; and (3) Any discipline, other than (1) and (2) — No more than one award.
DEADLINE: July 7, 2009
FUNDING INFORMATION: The Department expects to make approximately 3 awards at an estimated average size of $133,000 for the three-year duration of the award. Applications that propose a budget exceeding $150,000 for a single budget period of 12 months will be rejected.
These awards support only the participation of U.S. institutions and students in these consortia. Russian institutions will apply to The Russian Ministry of Education and Science for funding.
