for Education and Human Resources (EHR)
PROGRAM:
Communicating Research to Public Audiences
OBJECTIVES:
This program provides funding to promote the discovery, integration,
dissemination, and employment of new knowledge in service to society
and to achieve excellence in U.S. science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics (STEM) education at all levels. The program supports
efforts to communicate the processes and results of current research
awards from any NSF directorate or the Office of Polar Programs
to public audiences in order to assist in the broader dissemination
of research results and to promote science and technological literacy
for the general public in out-of-school settings. These awards provide
an opportunity for investigators to explain in non-technical terms
the methods and/or results of their research to a broad and diverse
audience, and can be used for any activity that falls within the
definition of an informal science education activity.
ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:
Investigators must have an active NSF research award. A letter of
support from the cognizant Program Officer is required. Only one
proposal per active research award is permitted.
DEADLINE:
Proposals may be submitted at any time, however they must be submitted
at least six months prior to the anticipated start date.
FUNDING INFORMATION:
This program utilizes the NSF standard and continuing grant award
mechanisms. The NSF anticipates making twenty awards per year from
a program budget of $1,500,000. The maximum award amount is $75,000
for up to two years.
