Transition to Electronic Format for Notification of Non-Competing Grants Progress Reports

NIH has announced that it will no longer notify PIs by mail when a Non-Competing Grant Progress report is due. In the past, NIH has mailed hard copies of pre-printed PHS 2590 face pages to the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) for distribution to investigators. The last hard copy mailing of pre-printed face pages took place in late June for those progress reports with November 2002 start dates. The Office of Extramural Research at NIH has launched a website of Non-Competing Progress Report due date information which can be queried using Boston University's Institutional Profile Number (IPF) to return a list of "due" progress reports.

Beginning with December 2002 start dates and beyond; e.g., for those progress reports due on or after October 1, 2002, OSP staff will monitor the website and will send an e-mail notification to PIs explaining that a Non-Competing Grant Progress report is due within the next several months. PIs may also access the web site directly if they wish. The site address is: http://era.nih.gov/userreports/pr_due.cfm and the University's IPF number is 894901.

PIs must then obtain a copy of the PHS 2590 forms kit (http://www.bu.edu/osp/forms.html) and work with the OSP Proposal Development Assistant Director assigned to their school or department to complete the required forms and obtain the appropriate signatures. Progress reports should continue to be mailed directly to the NIH awarding Institute/Center. A list of Institute/Center mailing addresses for progress reports is found at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/type5_mailing_addresses.htm.

For questions or concerns regarding this process please contact Cathy Antonio in the Office of Sponsored Programs at X3-4365 or cantonio@bu.edu. .
