PROGRAM: Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award

OBJECTIVES: The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained within the first five years of their appointment as independent researchers, and a demonstrated commitment to education, signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching.

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS: Institutions may submit only one Camille Dreyfus nomination annually. Nominees must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment, and are normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2007. Awardees are from Ph.D. granting departments in which scholarly research is a principal activity.

FUNDING INFORMATION: The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award provides a $75,000 unrestricted research grant. Of the total amount, $7,500 is for departmental expenses associated with research and education. Charges associated with indirect costs or institutional overhead are not allowed. Defrayal of academic-year salary is not permitted. Funds are normally expended over a period of five years.

INTERNAL REVIEW PROCESS: Each institution is permitted to nominate one individual. Faculty wishing to be considered for nomination should provide the following proposal material to India Adams, Office of Sponsored Programs, 25 Buick Street, Boston, MA 02215:

1. The candidate’s curriculum vitae (Maximum length: 3 pages)
2. A letter of nomination from the Department Chair or Dean which states the reasons for the candidate’s selection, and highlighting the candidate‚Äôs achievements.
3. A summary description, with references, of the candidate’s research accomplishments, and a description of future research and teaching plans. (Maximum length: 5 pages)

Nomination material will be collected and forwarded to the Office of the Vice President for Research for final selection. All nomination material should be received by Monday, December 17, 2012.
