PROGRAM: 2013 Searle Scholars

OBJECTIVES: The Searle Scholars program supports research in medicine, chemistry, and biological science. Grants are made to support the independent research of outstanding young scientists who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment.

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS: Applicants must be pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences. Candidates should have begun their first appointment as an independent investigator at the assistant professor level on or after July 1, 2011. The appointment must be a tenure-track position. No more than one application will be accepted from any one institution.

DEADLINE:
BU Internal Deadline: August 6, 2012
Foundation Deadline: September 28, 2012

FUNDING INFORMATION: Grants are $300,000 for a three-year term with $100,000 payable each year of the grant, subject to the receipt of acceptable progress reports. Generally, the program makes 15 new grants each year.

INTERNAL REVIEW PROCESS: Each institution is permitted to nominate one individual. Faculty wishing to be considered for nomination should forward: (1) a letter of recommendation from the appropriate Department Chair or Research Mentor, (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) a brief description of your research to OSP Executive Director Joan Kirkendall, Office of Sponsored Programs, 25 Buick Street, Boston, MA 02215. Nomination material will be collected and forwarded to the Office of the Vice President for Research for final selection. All nomination material should be received by Monday, August 6, 2012.
