AGENCY: Department of Education (DOEd)/Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE)

PROGRAM: Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE)—Special Focus Competition: US-Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program

OBJECTIVES: The FIPSE program provides funding to improve postsecondary education opportunities by focusing on problem areas in postsecondary education or approaches to improve postsecondary education. This particular program is a Special Focus Competition to encourage projects designed to support the formation of educational consortia of American and Brazilian institutions to encourage cooperation in the coordination of curricula, the exchange of students, and the opening of educational opportunities between the United States and Brazil.

Eligibility Restrictions: In order to be eligible for an award under this program, the applicant in the U.S. must be part of a U.S. institution and the applicant in Brazil must be part of a Brazilian institution. Brazilian institutions participating in any consortium proposal responding to the priority may apply to the Coordination of Improvement of Personnel of Superior Level (CAPES), Brazilian Ministry of Education, for additional funding under a separate but parallel Brazilian competition.
DEADLINE: May 13, 2011

FUNDING INFORMATION: The DOEd expects to make approximately 14 awards at an estimated size of $30,000–$35,000 for the first year and $210,000–$250,000 for the 4-year duration of the award.
