Boston University's membership in the Community of Science (COS) allows faculty to participate in the Expertise database; a collection of detailed, first-person profiles of more than 480,000 research professionals. COS Expertise can be used to track current research and scholarly activities, identify potential collaborators and peer reviewers, and use the World Wide Web to facilitate and foster research. The COS Expertise database is linked to the COS Funding Opportunities database to provide automated faculty matches and alerts that simplify the process of identifying award opportunities. These services are accessed through the COS Workbench, a customized workspace for the needs of the individual member.
