Directions By Bus

There are four regular bus routes (Bus # 1, 8, 10, and 47), two Crosstown (CT) express bus routes (Bus CT1 and CT3) and one rapid bus transit service, the Silver Line (formerly bus #49) that serve the Medical Center area. Please check individual schedules for times.

All buses operate seven days a week with less service on Saturday and Sunday, except the CT1 and CT3, which does not operate on weekends.

Bus #1
Travels from Harvard Square, Cambridge (Red Line) to Dudley Square bus station via Massachusetts Ave. It connects BUMC to Central Square, Cambridge (Red Line) and Mass Ave. (Orange Line). A free transfer is available to and from Mass Ave. Station. It also connects BUMC to Hynes/ICA (Green Line) and Symphony (Green Line). Buses operate every 12 minutes during peak hours, Monday through Friday. There is less frequent weekend service. Note: Subway passes or bus transfers are accepted on Bus #1 between the Mass Ave. station and BUMC / Harrison Ave. only.

For service to Harvard Square, board MBTA shelter at the corner closest to BUMC at Mass Ave. and Harrison Ave.

For service to Dudley Square bus station, board MBTA shelter on Mass Ave. at the corner of Harrison Ave (near South Block - Nurses Building).

Bus #8
Travels from JFK/University of Massachusetts, Harbor Point Campus (Red Line/Commuter Rail) to Kenmore Square (Green Line) via BUMC. It connects with Ruggles Station (Orange Line/Commuter Rail) and Kenmore Square (Green Line). Buses operate every 15-20 minutes during peak hours, Monday through Friday. On weekends there is limited service.

For service to Harbor Point / JFK/UMass (Red Line/Commuter Rail), board at MBTA shelter at East Concord St.

For service to Kenmore Square, board at MBTA shelter on East Newton St. Includes stops at Dudley Square bus station, Ruggles (Orange Line/Commuter Rail), and Kenmore (Green Line).

Bus #10
Travels from Copley (Green Line) (Board at the MBTA shelter at the intersection of St. James and Dartmouth Streets) to City Point in South Boston. It connects BUMC with Back Bay (Orange Line / Commuter Rail) and Andrew (Red Line). Buses operate every 20 minutes during peak hours, Monday through Friday. On weekends there is limited service.

For service to Copley Square, board at MBTA shelter in front of the Newton Pavilion on East Newton St. Includes stops at Back Bay (Orange Line/Commuter Rail) and Copley (close to the Green Line).

For service to City Point, board at MBTA shelter on East Concord St. Includes stop at Andrew (Red Line).

Bus #47
Travels from Central Square, Cambridge (Red Line) to Broadway (Red Line) via BUMC. It connects BUMC to Ruggles (Orange Line/Commuter Rail) via Dudley Square bus station and Fenway Station (Green Line). Buses operate every 20 minutes during peak hours, Monday through Friday. On weekends there is limited service.

For service to Central Square, Cambridge, board at MBTA shelter in front of the Newton Pavilion on East Newton St. Includes stops at Dudley Square bus station, Ruggles (Orange Line/Commuter rail), Fenway (Green Line), and Central Square (Red Line).

For service to Broadway (Red Line), board at MBTA bus stop on Albany St. across from BMC/HAC Emergency Entrance.

Silver Line (formerly Bus #49)
The Silver Line is the new bus rapid transit service that travels on Washington St.(2 blocks from the medical campus) from Dudley Square to Downtown Crossing, Boston (Close to Red/Orange Lines). It connects BUMC to New England Medical Center Station (Orange Line) and Chinatown Station (Orange Line). Service is provided every 10 minutes during peak hours. Stops along Washington St, near BUMC include Massachusetts Ave, E. Newton St and Union Park. All passes are accepted on the SilverLine.

Bus CT1
Travels from BUMC to Central Square, Cambridge (Red Line) and connects with Mass Ave. (Orange Line), Symphony (Green Line), and Hynes/ICA (Green Line) and has limited stops. Buses operate every 15 minutes during peak hours from 6:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. Service operates M-F only.

Note: Subway passes are accepted on Crosstown buses.

For service to Central Square, board at MBTA shelter at the corner of Mass Ave. / Harrison Ave. closest to Boston Medical Center, MBTA shelter on East Newton St., or MBTA shelter on East Concord St.

Bus CT3
Travels from Andrew Station (Red Line) to Beth Israel Hospital (Longwood Medical Area) and connects with BUMC and Ruggles (Orange Line / Commuter Rail). Buses operate every 15 minutes during peak hours from 6:15 A.M. to 7:45 P.M. Service operates Monday through Friday only.

Note: Subway passes are accepted on Crosstown buses.

For service to Andrew (Red Line), board at the MBTA shelter on East Concord St.

For service to the Longwood Medical Area, board at the MBTA shelter on East Newton St. or the MBTA bus stop on Harrison Ave. in front of Harrison Deli. Includes a stop at Ruggles (Orange Line).
