COMMON GROUND
Based on Dr. Howard Thurman’s belief that we have more in common with each other than we have differences, the Common Ground program is an exciting way to kick off your Boston University Orientation session by exploring one thing that all incoming freshmen share, their new home of Boston. Using GPS devices, students navigate the city, hop on the T, solve riddles, and face challenges as they explore the culture and history of Boston as well as get to know their new classmates. This is an interactive adventure that could bring you to the Boston Common, the Old North Church, the New England Aquarium, or Quincy Market. You may not know where you’re headed when you depart, but by the time you return you will have a better idea of how to get around the city that will be your home for the next four years.
Participants should plan to arrive on campus by noon on the Wednesday before their University Orientation session, for sessions 1-7. The program begins at 1 p.m. and ends by 4 p.m. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Students attending Common Ground will take the Boston University Writing Assessment on Thursday, during its regularly scheduled time. The program participation fee is $30.
