FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Should I attend University Orientation?
University Orientation ensures that you are properly registered for classes and that you receive important information to help succeed. Orientation attendance for all new students is mandatory.
How do I register for University Orientation?
Once you pay your enrollment deposit, you will be able to register for University Orientation at www.bu.edu/orientation beginning May 2, 2014.
Are there benefits to attending an earlier session?
It is to your advantage to attend University Orientation in June or July. Students who attend earlier sessions have stated that it is comforting to be familiar with Boston and have their schedules approved by an academic advisor a month or more before classes begin, allowing new Terriers to positively visualize themselves as part of the BU Community.
Students who attend sessions in June and July are also eligible to apply for the First Year Student Outreach Project (FYSOP) where first-year students come to campus and move into their dorm rooms one week prior to the start of the fall semester to volunteer in one of eleven Issue Areas: Animals, Children, Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, Homelessness & Housing, Human Rights, Hunger, Public Health Awareness and Urban Engagement. This is an opportunity to reconnect with those you’ve met during Orientation, meet classmates with similar interests, and make change by completing meaningful community service. www.bu.edu/csc
Is there an Orientation Program for Parents?
Parent Orientation runs concurrently with University Orientation. We strongly encourage parents to attend. Approximately half of incoming students’ families attend Parent & Sibling Orientation. Some attending sessions in June and July* stay in cost-effective student residences at 33 Harry Agganis Way.
*Please note that there is no housing for parents during Session 8 because we are preparing the Residence Halls for move-in.
Is on-campus housing available during University Orientation?
Students are required to stay on campus at a BU Residence Hall on Thursday night. Additional nights are available by request for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. There are a limited number of rooms available for participating parents Tuesday through Saturday. This is a good opportunity for parents to experience college life and enjoy a beautiful view of the city of Boston.
